Natural Bridge

The last Saturday in July we took a day trip up to Natural Bridge. It's only about an hour away and it's such a beautiful sight. We enjoyed the nice walk down to the bridge, then a little further to the Monocan Village where we learned about their way of life and how the village operated. It was very interesting to learn that the women were the heads of the village (matriarchal society) and all the operations. The daughters stay with their mothers and when they marry the men go to live at the wife's village.
Then we walked quite a bit further in hopes of a beautiful waterfall, but in turn found a slightly bigger than average river rapid. :) Even with that being the case, we had an enjoyable nature walk. By the time we got back, the kids were hungry so we stopped for a picnic. After we finished, we stopped off at the wax museum...very intersting to say the least.
Last, we finished out trip with a trip to the Natural Bridge Caverns, the deepest cavern on the East Coast. We had a great time and it was beautiful. Ethan thought it was so cool being down in a Cave and was even so brave when they turned the lights off in the very back cave.

This is where George Washington engraved his initials in the Bridge.
