A New Hobby?

I've always wanted to be the mom who made really cool cakes for her kid's birthdays. I'm not really sure where this ambition came from, but I think it had something to do with a friend's mom from high school who always made a cake in the shape of a school bus every year on the first day of school. I've finally decided to pursue this interest by taking a fun cake decorating class from the Michael's right next to my house. Luckily, a great friend of mine also shares my ambition and is taking it with me which makes it so much more fun!

So here is my first attempt with Ethan's 1st birthday cake, a Monster Truck:

So far, I've made two cakes a my class. The first week we made a rainbow cake which I made for a friend who had just had a new baby. I know...rainbows and boy don't normally go together which I was reminded of by the baby's dad but come on...it's a baby, it shouldn't matter right? :)Then this last week, we were learning how to make figures out of icing so we made a clown cake. Unfortunately we were having a CRAZY rain storm on the night of the class so I had to put a cover over my cake to take it to the car so the clowns got smushed a little.

Party Time!!!

Ethan's 1st birthday party was great! We had to postpone it a week because he came down with croup, but luckily when your child is one, it really doesn't matter when or if you even have a party for their birthday. We loved it though and Ethan had a great time sharing his new toys with friends and playing with family. Thanks to everyone who helped out!
Enjoy the picture overload!!!

YUM!!! Great party!!!

Stuck

Ethan has been having so much fun climbing on this bath seat (that should have been put away weeks ago by the way) and somehow figured out how to climb into it.
I thought it was pretty cute to see him stuck in the seat.

A New Doo...

So here's a start to getting caught up once again:

BEFORE

We started noticing that Ethan's hair was getting pretty long on top, but it was when he started getting a little rat tail in the back that I decided it was time for the first haircut.

AFTER

He was so great for the whole thing and he looked like such a little boy instead of a baby when he was finished. So handsome!!!

My Baby is 1

My baby is 1 year old. I feel so lucky to have such a great little boy! He is such a joy to be around and makes me laugh all the time. I just feel so blessed that I have a husband who works so hard so that I am able to be home with him all the time. What a fun, crazy adventure we had figuring out how to be parents to this cute boy. Here he is enjoying his birthday breakfast, chocolate chip pancakes and bananas. Unfortunately he had Croup on his birthday weekend, but he was a trooper.Another fun box from Great Grandma!!!
At one year old:
-Ethan loves to eat bananas, grapes, yogurt, bread, cheese, crackers of any kind, but unfortunately we've hit a major bump in the road when it comes to other fruits and veggies. I think he might be having trouble with the textures because he loved all foods when they were pureed now he loves to spit them out!
-He is into everything, "speed crawls," walks along anything and everything, and loves to push his fun car around.
-He loves the outdoors and actually cries when we come inside before he's ready. The second a door opens he bolts to try to get outside.
-Loves to swing in his new swing and could probably stay out there for hours.
-He is starting to laugh at things or animals in books or toys that make funny noises.
-He absolutely can't get enough books. Today I was getting ready in our bathroom and Ethan crawled out of the room so I followed him to find out what he was up to. I found him in his bedroom sitting next to his bookcase looking at a book. What a great kid!!!
-Ethan is still such a great sleeper...2 great naps (about 2 hours each) and in bed by 8:00 most nights! He really needs his sleep because you can definitely tell a difference on the days he doesn't get it.
-Funny thing...the kid LOVES to spit! It's almost a term of endearment for him...if he likes you, he spits on you. Now it's not like a true "spit" but more of sticking out his tongue and blowing which makes a nice "farting sound" and sprays really nice! Good description right???
